Rakuna 1 month review

Posted by Ngan Pham on Saturday, March 7, 2015,
Rakuna has been born 1.5 months. The first half of the first month, we pivoted from a context-based data sharing idea to a campus recruitment management solution. 1 month into this new pivot, here are what we have accomplished:
1. Email 50 people
2. Interview 17 people. Identify 6 people for MVP round.
3. Have 7 people in our pipeline to follow up for interview since they were busy
4. Have our first MVP - an explanation video
5. Have our first survey ready

Trong is falling out because of his work ...

March 1 - Exciting projects I have been working

Posted by Ngan Pham on Sunday, March 1, 2015, In : Business start-up (e-commerce)
Hello blog,

I am excited to use this year to indulge myself in new startup projects that I was too scared to get involved in before. As you probably already know, I have always wanted to have my own business. One thing I learned after working at EY and other places is that working for others only excites me for a limited period of time, and then my excitement will die down through time. I do not want to specialize in one thing. I want to get the full exposure, get my hands dirty on all aspect ...

New role - Accounting Consultant

Posted by Ngan Pham on Thursday, September 18, 2014, In : Business start-up (e-commerce)
Hi blog!

It has been such a long time since I blogged. Many things have happened. I did not make it through the visa lottery and now come back to school for Master of Accountancy at U of M. I have just accepted a part-time job offer as an Accounting Consultant for a small business. The role is challenging but will be very exciting for me.

I like to describe my role as the Controller & CFO's roles. The business owners have 3 separate businesses under the same book. He is planning to grow another...

Updates

Posted by Ngan Pham on Monday, February 10, 2014, In : Daily life
Life is not as easy as you think you can plan it. Let me update on the 2 previous news I posted earlier last month

Great news 1 - Trong's parents only accept our marriage if at least one of us would go home to help his parents' business. Thus, no further marriage talk for now

Great news 2 - My first baby officially left my body on my birthday, February 6, 2014. The ultrasound indicated that the baby was 6 weeks before it stopped growing :( I guess it is not that easy to deliver a baby successfu...

First entry of a new year - The Year of the Horse

Great news 1: I and Trong are happily in love. Trong is traveling home (Vietnam) for Tet but also to perform an important mission - propose our wedding to our parents.

Great news 2: I am having a 7-week-baby inside my tummy. Of course you know, Trong's child :)

Great news 3: With the new responsibility of taking care of another life inside myself, I have made a determination to make positive changes to my routine and diet.

Waiting

Posted by Ngan Pham on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, In : Daily life
Okay, the worst thing about Yola is that it does not automatically save my draft. I poured my heart out on you and accidentally closed the tab. Now my heart-pouring thoughts are all gone!!!

Alright, the point is, I have been dating this guy for almost a month. But, according to him, our starting point was the first time he took me out to Guthrie theater, back in September (almost 9 months already) and our first date was the day he took me to his favorite get-away place in St. Paul back in Janu...

WHY YOU SHOULD TRAVEL YOUNG

Posted by Ngan Pham on Friday, January 18, 2013, In : Interesting articles
Just a great and extremely inspiring writing that reminds me to live life to the fullest and travel young:)

WHY YOU SHOULD TRAVEL YOUNG

As I write this, I’m flying. It’s an incredible concept: to be suspended in the air, moving at two hundred miles an hour — while I read a magazine. Amazing, isn’t it?

I woke up at three a.m. this morning. Long before the sun rose, thirty people loaded up three conversion vans and drove two hours to the San Juan airport. Our trip was finished. It was time...

Keep Listening, but Start Talking

Posted by Ngan Pham on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, In : Interesting articles

When we meet with prospective investors, I don't speak much, and for good reason. There are three founding partners: Clayton Christensen, Matt Christensen, and me. When Clay is in the room, people want to hear from him. He's not only the controlling shareholder of Rose Park Advisors; our investment approach is based on his theory of disruptive innovation. Next on deck is his son, Matt, the CEO and portfolio manager; then me.

In this particular context it makes sense that my partners do the lio...

America's Next Top Model and my favorite

Posted by Ngan Pham on Friday, November 4, 2011, In : Daily life
This girl just has a stunning beauty and extraordinarily memorable eyes. I love watching AMNT mostly just to see her.

She is weird but inexplicably attractive and her eyes' expressions are mind-boggling. I hope she wins because obviously she is an all-star with beauty inside out:-) Good luck girl !

Internship and internship hunting reflection

Posted by Ngan Pham on Friday, November 4, 2011,
I finally met with my mentor today after a month of trying to schedule meeting time. It was relieving to talk to her to catch up and listen to her advices.she was very encouraging and told me that it was not me who had any problems but it was the economy and it was a bad timing to look for job now. She told me she knew people who used to be manager and directors are now applying for analyst jobs, which means that economy must be really bad. Even her company might be going to cut jobs and they...

My lucky period :D

Posted by Ngan Pham on Friday, April 22, 2011, In : Daily life
These past few weeks have been an influx of great news for me. Like a farmer overwhelmed in the esctacy of a ripen harvest, I just can't stop holding a big smile on my face and being overexcited all the day. "You must do the thing you think you can't do." That is true. I went in for things that are so competitive and challenging that I myself always secretly think that they are beyond my reach, now, they are here, in my hands. Everything is just as I want. Life cannot be better.

Buồn cái con chuồn chuồn...

Posted by Ngan Pham on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, In : Daily life

After all, he does not make my week, but he is always the one who makes it complete.

First update: it is not actually an update because this thing happened more than a month ago already, but I already broke up with Tung. Breaking up always sounds like a bid deal to me, not this time though. I have not felt much regret, missing, pains or anything since the day we broke up, Feb 27th. In fact, I feel free to live my life and be the selfish me again.

Yet, I keep thinking of my old boyfriend. Of cou...

What is the meaning of life?

Posted by Ngan Pham on Thursday, February 24, 2011, In : Daily life
Times like this, I want to be more sophisticated.

Life has been a true marathon for me and still, I have not seen the Finish Line yet. Today I came back to my room at 8pm, and it was a bless that I felt the temptation to spend the night chilling out, relaxing, being delicated. It sounds like such a simple reward after all non-stopping race I have been through. Tests, tests, tests, assignments, group projects, work. After all, what is the meaning of my life?

I have a boyfriend that I have been i...

First day of school - Spring 2011

Posted by Ngan Pham on Friday, January 14, 2011, In : Daily life
Finally after an exceptionally long delay right at the beginning of the semester, we got to go to class. Having 3 extra days off was a fun-thought, but the fact was not as fun. I was bored to death as I had nothing to do with my brain and sick of spending my days reading newspapers, surfing the internet and just laying in bed watching Totally Spies. So today, for the first time I felt so happy to start school.

There was not much to say about today, though. However, let's review a bit.

So my day...

Self-reflection

Posted by Ngan Pham on Thursday, November 18, 2010,
For the past week I have been working like a maniac. I went to class during the day, tutored every now and then between my class and my extra-curricular activities, went home at 10pm and started doing homework and working on my freaking papers. Somehow, I still manage to fit everything in my packed schedule and did well on my tests.

So today, after handed in my final Art History paper, I just felt totally relieved. I deserve a relaxing day after a chain of such hard work that I considers I wa...

First day of Fall Break 2010

Posted by Ngan Pham on Saturday, October 16, 2010, In : Daily life
So it is finally Fall Break. After all the crazy tests and mid-term essays, a seemingly eternal boring academic life, I finally can take my backpack and hit the road for a trip. This year I go to Charleston again, but with a whole new group of friends: Dionne, Rachel, Leya, and Angelica.

We started off early in the morning, just around 8:45am. We went to Waffle House for breakfast, which was tremendously exciting for me at first, but later I felt I made a terrible mistake to feel excited abou...

The Apprentice

It is a great TV show that I just discovered today after randomly tried out the new series Outsourced, introduced to me by my friend Kapil earlier. I have always heard of The Apprentice, but never know that it is such a great show hosted and starred by Donald Trump.

It just makes me realize that we have to live up to reality. Life is an eternal competition. You have to be aggressive, competitive, reach out, speak up, show that you are competent and you are an invaluable asset to the organizat...

Consciousness

Posted by Ngan Pham on Sunday, August 15, 2010, In : Interesting articles
We are playing a game and the game runs like this: the only thing you know is the thing you can put into words. We’re accustomed to thinking, feeling in terms of words; any ideas beyond expression of words simply get ignored consciously or unconsciously. If you feel you love a girl and tell your friend, he’d ask how do you know you love her? What’d you say? Well, if you’re not an articulate person, you may have hard time or never be able to give an adequate explication. Words are too ...

I am a really stupid girl

Posted by Ngan Pham on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, In : Daily life
I am!
For some reasons, despite my perfect scores in almost all of my classes, I still make stupid mistakes in my daily life that no normal person would make. I thought it was a brilliant idea to skip the agent and book the ticket by myself. I found a great deal, perfect time, price, and airline. Everything could have been so much better if I did not miss that one step of calling the airline to check back and confirm the departure and arrival time of all my flights right after I booked them. I...
